The short version
- We collect what you log about food, the details you give for your targets, your coach chats and your email for sign-in.
- To work out nutrition and answer questions, what you log is sent to AI services (OpenAI and Anthropic, plus web search). The app asks for your permission first.
- We keep the text and the nutrition. We don’t keep voice recordings or meal photos.
- No ads, and we don’t sell your data, including your health data. US residents: see US privacy rights.
- The app sends usage analytics to PostHog and crash reports to Sentry. Analytics never includes what you eat or say. You can turn analytics off in the app.
- Download your data or delete your account from inside the app at any time.
1. Who we are
Know My Meals (formerly VoiceFit) is a food-logging app made by Samarth Mamadapur, an individual developer based in the Netherlands (“we”, “us”). We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: samarthmamadapur1@gmail.com.
2. What we collect
Things you give us
- Account: your email address, and your name if your sign-in provides it. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the basic account details they share.
- What you log: meal descriptions you type, voice recordings (turned into text), meal photos (read for the food), meal times and your phone’s time zone, ingredients, amounts, nutrition estimates and any corrections you make.
- Your details: goal, pace, sex, age, height, weight, activity level, units, and any dietary preferences or restrictions you add.
- Targets: your daily calorie, protein, carb and fat targets.
- Coach: your questions, the coach’s replies, and short notes the coach saves about you to make its answers more relevant (for example, “vegetarian on weekdays”).
- Choices: when you agreed to AI processing, and which plan you picked.
- Purchases: if you subscribe, your plan, its status, when it renews or ends, and the store’s transaction ID. Apple or Google take the payment; we never see your card.
- Reports: if you report a coach answer, the reason, any note you add and a copy of the answer.
- Messages: anything you send us by email.
Things collected automatically
- Basic technical logs needed to run and secure the service (for example request times and error messages). Our hosting provider may record IP addresses in these logs.
- Usage analytics and crash reports from the app, described in Analytics and crash reports.
- A daily count of your AI requests, used to apply fair-use limits.
- Technical records that keep the app reliable, such as which Quick log suggestions you picked and receipts that stop a meal being saved twice.
- Update checks: the app asks Expo for app updates when it starts and when you return to it.
Food, body measurements and goals can reveal things about your health. We treat all of it as sensitive and only process it with your explicit consent (see Legal basis).
3. How we use it
Only to run and improve Know My Meals for you:
- estimating the nutrition of what you log;
- suggesting targets and showing your progress, history, trends and streak;
- suggesting meals you often have and helping you repeat them;
- answering your questions in the coach;
- unlocking the plan you paid for;
- counting how the app is used, to see what works and fix what doesn’t (you can turn this off);
- keeping the service secure, fixing crashes and other problems, and replying to you.
We don’t sell your data, share it for advertising or show ads. The app has no advertising SDKs and doesn’t use your phone’s advertising ID. We don’t use your data to train AI models.
4. AI processing
Before you can log a meal, the app shows a screen explaining how the AI part works and asks for your agreement. This is what happens:
| When | What is sent | To whom |
|---|---|---|
| You log by voice | The recording | OpenAI, to turn it into text |
| You type or say something | The text | OpenAI, to tell meals apart from questions |
| You log a meal | What you typed or said, any meal photo, and your meals from the last 14 days so estimates match how you eat | Anthropic (Claude), to work out the ingredients and nutrition |
| You add or re-estimate an ingredient | The ingredient’s name and amount | Anthropic (Claude), to work out its nutrition |
| A meal or ingredient is branded or from a restaurant | Search terms based on your description | Anthropic’s web search |
| You ask the coach | Your question, your details and targets, the meals you’ve logged and the coach’s notes about you | Anthropic (Claude), to answer |
| The coach needs to look something up | Search terms based on your question | Anthropic’s web search |
| You open the app (Quick log suggestions) | The names, dates, times and types of meals you’ve logged in the past year, how often you have them, and the time of day | OpenAI, to pick which of your usual meals to suggest |
Requests to Anthropic and OpenAI go through Vercel’s AI Gateway, except voice recordings. Those go to OpenAI directly. Your email and account details are not included in any of these requests. We keep the resulting text and nutrition; we don’t store the recording or the photo.
You can withdraw your agreement by deleting your account. Without it, the app can’t estimate meals or answer questions, because those features depend on these services.
5. Analytics and crash reports
Usage analytics
To see what works and fix what doesn’t, the app counts how it is used: which screens you open, which buttons you tap, how long logging takes, and whether estimates succeed. Our server adds a few counts of its own, such as when a meal is logged, how long an estimate took, and when an account is created or deleted. These events go to PostHog and are stored on its EU servers.
Events are linked to a random account number and to random device and session IDs, not to your name or email. Some include broad answers from setup: your goal, activity level, pace and age range (for example 25–34). They also carry basic device details, such as the app version, the phone’s make, model and the name it reports, the operating system, screen size, language and time zone. They never include what you eat or say, your photos, your coach chats, or your height and weight. PostHog doesn’t look up your location from your IP address.
Analytics is on by default. To turn it off, go to You → Privacy and AI and switch off Share usage analytics. The app then stops sending events from that phone, and our server stops adding its own for your requests from that phone.
Crash reports
If the app crashes or our server hits an error, we send a report to Sentry, stored on its EU servers in Germany, so we can fix it. A report contains the error and where in the code it happened, the app version, and, for app crashes, the phone’s model and operating system and the screens you opened just before. We remove your account details and the content of requests and replies, scrub text from error messages, and never capture screenshots or screen recordings. Crash reports can’t be turned off in the app.
6. Who processes it
We use these service providers to run Know My Meals. Each only receives what it needs for its job:
| Provider | What it receives | What for |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel | Every request the app makes to our server, including your IP address, and the AI requests described above | Hosting the app’s server, and routing AI requests through the Vercel AI Gateway |
| Neon | Everything we store about your account | Database that stores your account and logs |
| Clerk | Your email, your name if your sign-in provides it, and your sign-in details | Sign-in, sign-in emails and account management |
| OpenAI | Voice recordings, the text you enter, and the names and times of meals you’ve logged | Voice-to-text, sorting entries into meals or questions, and choosing Quick log suggestions |
| Anthropic | What you log, meal photos, your details and targets, coach questions and notes, and web search terms | Nutrition estimates, coach answers, and web search for both (for example branded or restaurant food) |
| PostHog | Usage events linked to a random account number (see Analytics and crash reports) | Usage analytics, which you can turn off |
| Sentry | Crash and error reports, without your account details | Finding and fixing crashes |
| RevenueCat | Your random account number, basic device details, and your purchases and receipts from the App Store or Google Play | Managing subscriptions and telling our server which plan you have |
| Expo | Basic app and device details, such as the app version and platform, when the app checks for updates | Delivering app updates (EAS Update) |
| Apple and Google | What their app stores and sign-in services need | App distribution, Sign in with Apple or Google, and subscription payments. They handle your payment details; we never see your card. |
We may also disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
7. Legal basis
- Your explicit consent for processing your food log, body details and coach conversations, including sending them to the AI services above (GDPR Articles 6(1)(a) and 9(2)(a)).
- Performing our contract with you for your account, subscription and support (Article 6(1)(b)).
- Our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure and working, fixing crashes, and understanding how the app is used so we can improve it (Article 6(1)(f)). You can object to usage analytics at any time with the switch in the app.
- Legal obligations, for example keeping records required for tax (Article 6(1)(c)).
8. How long we keep it
- Your account, logs, details, purchases and coach conversations: while your account exists.
- Voice recordings and meal photos: not stored by us. They are processed to produce text and estimates, then discarded. Our AI providers may keep requests for a limited time under their API terms, for example to check for abuse.
- Daily counts of AI requests: we clear counts older than 35 days the next time you use an AI feature.
- Usage analytics: while your account exists.
- When you delete your account, we delete it straight away from our database, from Clerk, from PostHog (your usage analytics) and from RevenueCat (your subscription record), with all the data linked to it. Copies in our providers’ routine backups and logs expire on their normal schedules.
- Crash reports aren’t linked to your account, so they aren’t deleted with it. Sentry deletes them on its normal schedule.
- Apple and Google keep their own records of your purchases, for example for tax and refunds.
- Emails you send us: as long as needed to help you, then deleted.
9. Your rights
You can:
- Get a copy of your data: You → Privacy and AI → Download my data.
- Delete your account and data: You → Subscription → Delete account, or see how to delete your account.
- Correct your data: edit any meal, detail or target in the app.
- Turn off usage analytics: You → Privacy and AI → Share usage analytics.
- Withdraw consent, object, or restrict processing, and ask us about anything here, by emailing samarthmamadapur1@gmail.com.
We’ll reply within one month. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or the authority where you live.
10. US privacy rights
This section applies if you live in the United States, including California, Washington, Nevada, Connecticut and other states with privacy or consumer health data laws.
- What we collect and why: the categories in What we collect, for the purposes in How we use it. That includes identifiers (email, random account and device IDs), purchase records, app usage, and consumer health data: what you eat, your body details, goals and targets, and your coach conversations.
- Where it comes from: from you, from your use of the app, and from Apple, Google and Clerk when you sign in or subscribe.
- Who receives it: only the service providers in Who processes it, for the jobs listed there.
- No selling or sharing: we don’t sell your personal data, including your health data, and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted ads.
- Consumer health data: we only collect and use it with your consent, to run the app for you. You can see it, download it or delete it in the app at any time.
- Your rights: you can ask to know what we hold, get a copy, correct it, delete it, withdraw consent, and opt out of any sale or targeted advertising (we do neither). Use the app (see Your rights) or email samarthmamadapur1@gmail.com. We may need to confirm the request comes from you. We reply within 45 days. If we turn down a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer, and we’ll tell you the outcome and how to contact your state attorney general.
- No penalties: we won’t treat you differently for using these rights.
11. International transfers
Our server (Vercel) and database (Neon) run in the United States, and our AI and sign-in providers also process data there. Usage analytics (PostHog) and crash reports (Sentry) are stored in the EU.
12. Security
Data is encrypted in transit, each request is checked against your account, and access to production systems is limited. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affecting you happens, we’ll tell you and the regulator as the law requires.
13. Age
Know My Meals is for adults aged 18 and over. The app asks your age during setup and doesn’t let you continue if you’re under 18. If you think a child has created an account anyway, email us and we’ll delete it.
14. This website
This website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or trackers, and the target calculator runs entirely in your browser. Our host, Vercel, processes basic request data (like IP addresses) to serve the pages and keep them secure. The app is different: see Analytics and crash reports.
15. Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the app about important changes.
